Definition

The cranial part corresponds to the summit of the lesser tubercle. It forms the cranial subdivision of the medial relief, which is always less prominent than the greater tubercle, and is mainly recognizable in large species like ruminants and horses.

It is located on the craniomedial part of the proximal extremity of humerus. It gives insertion for the muscles of the shoulder blade (infraspinous and supraspinous muscles). It is separated from the head of humerus by the neck, and separated from the craniolateral greater tubercle by the intertubercular groove
