Elbow

Cubitus

Definition

The elbow (Cubitus) unites the upper-arm to the arm.

In Ungulates, it is still partially attached to the thorax and the region of the ars extends on its medial surface.

In Carnivorous and Rodents, it is more detached and free.

It shows forward a groove of flexion, the elbow crease and behind, a strong relief that corresponds to the bony protrusion of the olecranon: the elbow tip, that is located against the costal wall at a variable distance from the sternum and is sometimes considered as a particular sub-region, called olecranian region (Regio olecrani), by opposition to the proper elbow region (Region cubiti).
