Epidermal tubules [Horn tubules]
Tubuli epidermales
Definition
The epidermal tubules, also called horn tubules, are microscopic, longitudinal cylinders of keratinized epidermal horn that run from the coronary band toward the bearing edge within the hoof (or claw) wall. They are produced by the epidermis covering the dermal (coronary) papillae, and they are embedded in a surrounding intertubular horn matrix.
