Frog
Cuneus ungulae
Definition
The frog is the V-shaped mass of keratinized stratified squamous epithelium on the solar surface of the equine hoof, located between the bars and the heel bulbs and extending from the heels toward the toe.
It is softer and more elastic than the hoof wall and usually forms part of the weight-bearing surface, where it functions primarily in shock absorption and stabilization/traction.
