The lateral collateral ligament is the collateral stabilizing ligament located on the lateral aspect of a synovial joint, connecting the bones forming the joint and limiting excessive lateral/medial motion and rotation.

In horse, the lateral collateral ligament is a short, strong band that originates from the dorsolateral distal aspect of the middle phalanx and inserts on the dorsolateral proximal aspect of the distal phalanx.
