Malleolar groove

Sulcus malleolaris

Definition

The malleolar groove is on the lateral surface of the lateral malleolus of ungulates:

  • Pigs and ruminants: for the tendon extensor digitorum lateralis ans fibularis longus
  • Horses: for the tendon extensor digitorum lateralis
  • Carnivores: there are two malleolar grooves: one on lateral surface for the tendon of fibularis longus (Sulcus tendinis musculus fibularis longi), and another one on the caudal border for the tendon extensor digitorum lateralis and fibularis brevis (Sulcus tendinum musculi extensoris digorum lateralis et fibularis brevis).
