Mechanical radial axis

Mechanical radial axis

  • Acronym: mRA

Definition

Stephan Mahler

The mechanical radial axis is a landmark used to assess angular deformations of the radius and provide guidance for their correction. It is determined, in the frontal plane, from a cranio-caudal radiograph or a multiplanar reconstruction of the radius.

The mechanical radial axis in the frontal plane is defined by the axis connecting the midpoint of the proximal radial joint orientation line and the midpoint of the distal radial joint orientation line.
