Definition
The medial collateral ligament is the collateral stabilizing ligament located on the medial aspect of a synovial joint, connecting the bones forming the joint and limiting excessive lateral/medial motion and rotation.
In horse, the medial collateral ligament is a short, strong band that originates from the dorsolateral distal aspect of the middle phalanx and inserts on the dorsomedial proximal aspect of the distal phalanx.
