Medial parapatellar fibrocartilage
Fibrocartilago parapatellaris medialis
Definition
The parapatellar fibrocartilages are located on the medial and lateral sides of the patella, and mostly developed in carnivores.
In dogs, the medial and lateral parapatellar fibrocartilages continue the side of the patella into the femoral fascia, and meet dorsally and ride on the crest of the femoral trochlea and tend to prevent dislocation of the patella.
In older dogs, they may extend into the tendon of rectus femoris.
