Talus

Talus

Definition

The talus is medial to the calcaneus in the proximal row of tarsus. It is divided into:

  • A head (in carnivores) at the base of the bone, that articulates with the central tarsal bone.
  • A neck (in carnivores) separating the the head from the body
  • A body
  • A trochlea, the proximal part of talus for articulation with tibia (and fibula carnivores). In ruminants, the trochlea is divided into a proximal and a distal trochlea
