Aberrant obturator artery
Arteria obturatoria aberrans
Definition
An aberrant obturator artery (AOA) is an anatomical variation in which the obturator artery arises from the external iliac artery (EIA) instead of the internal iliac artery.
Select case studies have identified it in as many as 55.1% of individuals in their cohort. Other alternative OA origins include the common iliac artery (CIA), inferior gluteal artery (IGA), internal pudendal artery (IPA), a common trunk for IGA and IPA, iliolumbar artery (ILA), EIA, a branch of the EIA, or by a dual root from both IIA and EIA sources.
