Inferior fascia of pelvic diaphragm

Fascia inferior diaphragmatis pelvis

  • Eponym: Waldeyer's fascia

Definition

Antoine Micheau

The inferior fascia of the pelvic diaphragm is a thin fascia that covers the inferior surface of the levator ani. It is continuous laterally with the obturator fascia and forms the roof and the medial wall of the ischioanal fossa. It blends below the deep perineal fascia, and with the external anal sphincter.

In Terminologia Anatomica, the eponym of the inferior fascia of the pelvic diaphragm is reported as the Waldeyer's fascia , but in other sources the Waldeyer's fascia is the eponym of the presacral fascia.
