Parietal notch
Incisura parietalis
Definition
The parietal notch is the angle formed where the upper edge of the squamous part of the temporal bone (i.e. the squamous suture) meets the parietomastoid suture above the mastoid process. The notch can be seen on the posterior half of the lateral side of the skull, right in front of the asterion point. The posteroinferior corner of the parietal bone fits tightly into this angle. The parietal notch is useful for identifying the front edge of the sigmoid venous sinus in the cranial cavity.
