Right colic vein
Vena colica dextra
Definition
The right colic vein drains the ascending colon. and ends into the superior mesenteric vein or the gastrocolic trunk of Henle.
Are described three main types of anatomical courses:
Type-I, the most common configuration, running on the ventral aspect of the pancreatic head and draining into the right lateral wall of the superior mesenteric vein;
Type-II, running apart from the pancreatic head and directly draining into the superior mesenteric vein;
Type-III, draining into the tributaries of the superior mesenteric vein.
