Sulcus of auditory tube

Sulcus tubae auditivae

  • Latin synonym: Sulcus tubae auditoriae

Definition

The sulcus of auditory tube, also termed the sulcus tubae, is an identifiable anatomical groove in the skull's base, situated at the interface of the posteromedial border of the sphenoid bone's greater wing and the petrous segment of the temporal bone. It serves as the receptacle for the cartilaginous portion of the auditory tube. Progressing posteriorly and laterally, this sulcus leads into the bony part of the auditory tube that is embedded in the petrous part of the temporal bone, ultimately communicating with the middle ear cavity.
