Superior mesenteric nodes

The superior mesenteric lymph nodes are a group of lymph nodes (100-150) located around the superior mesenteric artery in the mesentery. They play a crucial role in the lymphatic drainage of the small intestine, particularly the jejunum and ileum, as well as parts of the large intestine.

They are subdivided as:

• Juxtaintestinal mesenteric nodes

• Central superior mesenteric nodes

• Ileocolic nodes

• Prececal nodes

• Retrocecal nodes

• Appendicular nodes

• Paracolic superior mesenteric nodes

• Right colic nodes

• Middle colic nodes
