Caudal auricular artery
Arteria auricularis caudalis
Definition
The caudal auricular artery arises at the caudal border of the external carotid artery, shortly before its termination. It then circles around the caudal part of the base of the ear, before running dorsally . In the rabbit and the dromedary, it comes from the superficial temporal artery.
It is first covered by the parotid gland, passes under the caudal auricular muscles, and then runs between the base of the auricle and the temporalis muscle.
