Definition
In carnivores, the joint capsules of proximal interphalangeal joints are similar to the ones of metacarpophalangeals with dorsal and palmar recess (pouches) and a cartilagenous enforcement dorsally.
In horses, the articular cavity of the proximal interphalangeal joint presents four recesses :
- A dorsal recess
- A palmar recess
- Two distodorsocollateral recesses (lateral and medial, accorded to JM Denoix, not listed in the NAV)
