Fovea for ligament of head
Fovea capitis
Definition
The head of femur is covered by an hemispherical articular surface (articulated with acetabulum) with a central circular notch called fovea (for attachment of ligament of femoral head). In horses, the fovea is not circular but wedge-shaped and open to the periphery medially for the attachment of accessory ligament of femur.
