Heel region
Regio calcanea
Definition
The plantar border of the tarsus connects to the hock cord forming an angle at the level of a protrusion corresponding to the heel (Calx) in Men: It is the hock point formed by the top of the calcaneus; this bone constitutes the base of the calcanear region (Regio calcanea). In front of the calcaneus and the hock cord, we find on the two sides an elongated depression. The medial surface holds in Horses (and not in Donkeys) a tarsal torus (Torus tarseus): it is an ungulate vestige less developed than in the thoracic limb.
