Interlobar notches

Incisurae interlobares

Definition

Antoine Micheau

The interlobar notches of the liver are anatomical features that mark the boundaries between its lobes.

In domestic animals, the liver is typically divided into multiple lobes: left lateral, left medial, quadrate, right medial, right lateral, and caudate (with caudate and papillary processes). The interlobar notches are depressions or clefts at the margins where adjacent lobes meet. These serve as external landmarks for lobar separation and are often associated with vascular and biliary structures internally.
