Musculus ischiocavernosus

The ischiocavernosus muscle is a paired muscle of the penis located under the pelvis. It is rudimentary in females.

Conformation: It is composed of two fleshy bodies made up of large, almost parallel bundles.

Origin: Ischial tuberosity.

Insertion: Tunica albuginea of the corpora cavernosa.

Relations: It is in contact laterally with the semimembranosus muscle and medially with the bulbospongiosus muscle and the bulb of the penis.

Action: Compression of the vessels and the pillar of the penis, thus playing a role in erection.
