Lateral ventricle
Ventriculus lateralis
Definition
The lateral ventricle is a cavity filled with cerebrospinal fluid located within each cerebral hemisphere. It includes a central part, a rostral horn, and a temporal horn, communicating with the third ventricle via the interventricular foramen.
It is bounded medially by the caudate nucleus and the thalamocaudate sulcus, and contains specialized structures such as the stria terminalis, the lamina affixa, and the choroid tenia linking the choroid plexus. The temporal horn contains the hippocampal foot (Ammon's horn).
