Lunate surface

Facies lunata

Definition

The lunate surface is a peripheral moon shaped articular surface in cavity of the acetabulum. It is indented ventromedially by the acetabular notch.

The lunate surface is divided in ruminants by a a cranioventral notch of rough area free of cartilage into a a greater part (craniodorsal part) and a lesser part (caudoventral part).
