Interpeduncular nucleus
Nucleus interpeduncularis
Definition
The interpeduncular nucleus is a nucleus located ventrally in the interpeduncular fossa, which receives afferents from limbic structures via the medial habenular nucleus and the retroflex fasciculus, and projects to the midbrain raphe nuclei to modulate serotonin and influence mood.
It is particularly large in domestic carnivores.
