Occiput

Occiput

Definition

Unlike in Men, where the vertex, that corresponds to the top of the parietal bones and stays prominent for a long time in embryos, is the uppermost point of the skull, in most domestic animals it is the occiput that dominates the neck. It forms the basis of the occipital region, beyond wich are the parietal, temporal, auricular and frontal regions.

Nonetheless, some species like the Bull have a slightly different skeletal organisation; their frontal bone spreads over the whole upper rear surface of the skull and rejects the parietals and occipitals bones backward and downward.
