Ungual process

The ungual process in carnivores is the distal part of the distal phalanx. It is a compressed cone shielded by the horny claw.

It is porous and has ridges on its proximal dorsal part that fade distally. 

The claw is attached on the surface of the ungual process: the wall of the claw on the lateral surface of the ungual process, the sole of the claw on the flattened palmar surface. The root of the claw is inserted an covered on the base of the ungual process, that make a crescent-shaped shelf of bone called the ungual crest.
