Abdominal part of thoracic duct
Pars abdominalis ductus thoracici
- Related terms: Abdominal part
Definition
The abdominal part of the thoracic duct is primarily represented by the cisterna chyli, located typically at the T12 to L2 vertebral levels, formed by the confluence of the right and left lumbar trunks and intestinal trunks, and exhibiting significant anatomical variability.
The abdominal part of the thoracic duct then continues superiorly as the thoracic part of thoracic duct, which ascends through the aortic hiatus of the diaphragm into the thoracic cavity.
