Definition
The abductor of fifth metatarsal is an inconstant muscle (40%) composed by bundles of the abductor digiti minimi of foot ending on the tuberosity of the fifth metatarsal bone in common with or beneath the outer margin of the plantar fascia (most of the abductor digiti minimi of foot muscle glides over the tuberosity of the lateral surface of the proximal phalanx).
Origin: Abductor digiti minimi pedis/external tubercle of the calcaneus
Insertion: tuberosity of the fifth metatarsal bone
Artery: Lateral plantar artery
Nerve: Lateral plantar nerve
Action: Abduct the little toe,extend to the middle or even anterior part of the metatarsal.
