Adventitial bursae of the foot

An adventitial bursa is a thin sac filled with viscous fluid adventitial bursae, which develop in sites where friction or pressure increases (especially on bony prominence), causing adventitious bursitis.

These bursae are acquired and may not considered as true anatomical structures (they are not listed in the Terminologia Anatomica).

The adventitial bursae of the foot are:

• Adventitious bursae of the plantar fat pad

• Adventitious bursa of the first metatarsal

• Adventitious bursa of the fifth metatarsal
