Trochanteric bursa of gluteus minimus muscle
Bursa trochanterica musculi glutei minimi
- Related terms: Trochanteric bursa of gluteus minimus
Definition
The trochanteric bursa of the gluteus minimus muscle (subgluteus minimus bursa) is located in the area of the anterior facet of the greater trochanter, underneath the gluteus minimus tendon. It is positioned medial and cranial to the insertion of the gluteus minimus tendon and extends medially, covering the distal anterior part of the hip joint capsule.[1-2]
The subgluteus minimus bursa is one of several bursae associated with the greater trochanter, which also includes the trochanteric bursa of gluteus maximus muscle and the trochanteric bursae of gluteus medius muscle (subgluteus medius bursa). These bursae are lined with synovial membrane and are designed to reduce friction between the gluteal tendons and the greater trochanter during hip movements.[1-2]
