Infraspinous fossa
Fossa infraspinata
Definition
The infraspinous fossa is a broad, shallow depression located on the dorsal surface of the scapula, inferior to the scapular spine. The medial two-thirds of this fossa serve as the origin for the infraspinatus muscle, one of the rotator cuff muscles responsible for external rotation of the shoulder and stabilizing the glenohumeral joint.
