Jejunal arteries
Arteriae jejunales
Definition
The jejunal arteries are branches of the superior mesenteric artery (SMA). They typically number between 5 and 15 and arise from the left side of the superior mesenteric artery. These arteries supply the jejunum, a part of the small intestine, and are characterized by their extensive branching and formation of arterial arcades.
The jejunal arteries divide into smaller branches, which further subdivide into a series of arcades. These arcades form a marginal artery that runs close to the mesenteric border of the jejunum.
