The nuclei of lateral lemniscus are key components of the auditory (cochlear) pathway, located within the brainstem and embedded along the lateral lemniscus.

Axonal fibers from the trapezoid nuclei and the superior olivary complex either synapse within the nuclei of the lateral lemniscus or project directly to the inferior colliculus in the midbrain.
