Smallest right ventricular veins
Venae minimae ventriculares dextrae
- Synonym: Right ventricular venae minimae
- Related terms: Right ventricular veins
Definition
The smallest right ventricular veinsare the veins belonging to the group of smallest cardiac veins (Thebesian veins) that are minute cardiac veins that drain directly into the one of the four cardiac chambers, and in this case directly into the the right ventricle. These vessels represent part of the smaller cardiac vascular system and are distinct from the larger coronary venous drainage pathways.
The Thebesian veins drain the inner third of the myocardium and open directly into any of the four cardiac chambers through small openings called foramina Thebesii. While these vessels are present throughout the heart, they are most prevalent in the right atrium and right ventricle with a significantly greater number of Thebesian veins are found in the right ventricle compared to the left ventricle.
