Cartilage of the heart

Cartilago cordis

Definition

Antoine Micheau

In most mammals, the fibrous skeleton of the heart includes areas of cartilaginous or chondroid tissue which may even develop to form, in the right trigone and often in the left, a true cardiac cartilage (cartilago cordis) that is more or less well defined, and called cartilage of the heart.

In carnivores, this is hyaline cartilage, whereas in ungulates, this cartilage is mixed with fibrous tissue.
