Claustrum

Claustrum

Definition

Juliette Garnodier

The claustrum, in the corpus striatum of the telencephalon, is a thin sheet of gray matter located between the extreme capsule and the insular cortex, lateral to the external capsule.

Its function is unknown, but it has broad connections with various areas of the cerebral cortex, and its ventral part may be related to the limbic system.
