Pleura costalis
- Related terms: Costal pleura (Parietal pleura)
Definition
The costal pleura is the portion of the parietal pleura that lines the inner surface of the ribs and intercostal muscles. It forms a continuous layer with the other parts of the parietal pleura (diaphragmatic and mediastinal) and contributes to the formation of the pleural space, allowing the lungs to glide against the thoracic wall during respiration.
