Pleura pulmonalis
Definition
The pulmonary pleura, or visceral pleura, is a thin serous membrane that covers the surface of each lung, including their interlobar fissures.
It glides over the parietal pleura thanks to a thin layer of serous fluid, allowing frictionless respiration. The pulmonary pleura and the parietal pleura meet at the lung hilum to form a closed potential space called the pleural cavity.
