Definition
The fat body of the ischiorectal fossa refers to a mass of adipose (fat) tissue that fills the ischiorectal (or ischioanal) fossa—a wedge-shaped space located on either side of the anal canal, between the pelvic diaphragm (notably the levator ani muscle) medially and the obturator internus muscle laterally.
