Definition

Stephan Mahler

The layngeal part of the pharynx (or laryngopharynx) is the portion of the pharynx that extends from the intrapharyngeal oprening rostrally to the beginning of the esophagus caudally. It lies dorsal to the larynx.

The laryngeal part of the pharynx is essentially bounded by the muscular layer of pharynx. It plays a role in both the digestive and respiratory systems, and is of paramount importance in deglutition.
