The oral part of the pharynx, also known as the oropharynx, is the anatomical region that extends form the isthmus of the fauces to the base of the epiglottis. It is limited dorsally by the soft palate, ventrally by the root of the tongue and laterally by the tonsillar fossa, that contains the palatine tonsil.
