Limbus

Limbus

Definition

Estelle Demange

The limbus (often called the limbus ungulae or coronary limbus) is the proximal part of the claw or hoof. It's a narrow, germinative zone of the coronary corium located at the junction between the skin of the pastern and the hoof wall. It is responsible for producing the outermost, superficial layer of the hoof wall, contributing to the continuous growth of the hoof horn.
