Lower second incisor

Dens incisivus secundus inferioris

Definition

Incisors (from Latin incidere, "to cut") are the front teeth present in most mammals. Humans have a total of eight (two on each side, top and bottom). Opossums have 18, dogs 12, bulls 6.

The upper incisors, when they exist (absent in most ruminants), take place in the incisive bones that take part in the formation of the palatine vault and the nasal cavity.

While the lower incisors, on the incisive part of the mandible is flattened from front to back and oriented vertically in Men, it is flattened dorso-centrally and nearly longitudinal in animals.

N.B.: In Ruminants, a fourth tooth has the form of an incisor, but it is a migrated canine tooth incorporated into the row of incisors. Therefore, in Ruminants there are a first and a second intermediate incisors.
