Transverse sinus
Sinus transversus
Definition
The transverse sinus is a paired dural venous sinus located in the caudal part of the cranial cavity. It extends laterally from the confluence of sinuses and courses through the transverse canal and groove of the occipital bone, close to the attachment of the tentorium cerebelli. It receives venous blood from the brain and other dural venous sinuses. At the dorsal border of the petrous part of the temporal bone, it divides into the temporal sinus and the sigmoid sinus, which contribute to the extracranial drainage of the cranial venous system.
