Sigmoid sinus

Sinus sigmoideus

Definition

Juliette Garnodier

The sigmoid sinus is a paired dural venous sinus located in the caudal part of the cranial cavity. In the dog, it courses in an S-shaped path along the dorsomedial aspect of the petrous part of the temporal bone and passes through the jugular foramen toward the tympano-occipital fissure. It receives venous blood mainly from the cerebellum and brainstem.
