Anterior ethmoidal artery
Arteria ethmoidea anterior
- Latin synonym: Arteria ethmoidalis anterior
Definition
The anterior ethmoidal artery is a branch of the ophtlamic artery. It accompanies the nasociliary nerve through the anterior ethmoidal canal, supplies the anterior and middle ethmoidal cells and frontal sinus, and, entering the cranium, gives off a meningeal branch to the dura mater, and nasal branches; these latter descend into the nasal cavity through the slit by the side of the crista galli, and, running along the groove on the inner surface of the nasal bone, supply branches to the lateral wall and septum of the nose, and a terminal branch which appears on the dorsum of the nose between the nasal bone and the lateral cartilage.
