Apical segmental artery of right lung

Arteria segmentalis apicalis pulmonis dextri

  • Related terms: Apical segmental artery

Definition

The segmental arteries of superior lobe of right lung are:

  • Apical segmental artery of right lung (A1)

  • Anterior segmental artery of right lung (A2)

  • Posterior segmental artery of right lung (A3)

In the most common arterial pattern there is a single, high anterior trunk or truncus anterior supplying the apical (A1) and anterior segments (A2) and a single ascending branch supplying the posterior segment (A3) Other common variants include trifurcation of the truncus anterior to supply the apical, anterior and posterior segments and 2 separate branches to the posterior segment. Occasionally there may be segmental supply to the upper lobe from the middle lobe or superior segmental right lower lobe artery.
