Definition
Blood vessels are channels or conduits that transport blood, cells, nutrients, and oxygen to body tissues. They also remove waste products and carbon dioxide from these tissues. Some tissues, such as cartilage, epithelium, and the lens and cornea of the eyes, are not supplied with blood vessels and are therefore termed 'avascular'.
