Posterior labial arteries
Arteriae labiales posteriores
- Latin synonym: Rami labiales arteriae perinealis
- Synonym: Labial branches of perineal artery
- Related terms: Posterior labial branches female
Definition
The posterior labial arteries (Labial branches of perineal artery) are terminal branches of the internal pudendal artery (via the perineal artery) that provide arterial blood supply to the posterior aspect of the labia majora and labia minora of the vulva.
The posterior labial arteries travel alongside the posterior labial nerves (superficial branches of the perineal nerve, itself a terminal branch of the pudendal nerve, S2S4), which provide sensory innervation to the posterior labia majora.
In males, the homologous vessels are the posterior scrotal arteries, which supply the posterior aspect of the scrotum.
